Relocate or not...
When my husband told me that we were returning to Nigeria, I looked at him in shock horror and said "you must be joking!!!" Nearly one year on, the journey has not been as bad as I had thought. So to your delight, here are my reasons for coming back home based on my limited experience. Please other returness and locals, add your pennies worth too o!!!
1. The people here are generally warm and hospitable, when their not driving.
2. You won't get seasonal depression, in fact you will look forward to the rainy seasons because of the cooler evenings
3. You won't lack parties, weddings or good time (a bit obvious from my fb photos huh?)
4. You will get used to lizards but cockroaches might take longer (I hate those creatures)
5. You'll find that you're not the only one returning home. In fact your whole street maybe full of returnees
6. You'll enjoy all the home delicacies especially Banga soup
7. Ladies, you won't have to carry them braids for two months, in fact two to three weeks is now the limit
8. If you buy a Smartphone and connect with FB, MSM or even Google, it will distract the traffic issues sometimes
9. If you mix with the right circles, you will get opportunities that you could only dream of abroad
10. You will feel part of society and that you CAN smash that glass ceiling IMO
11. More importantly, your kids, especially boys will get a sense of belonging but be warned the Britico accent (my son doesn't stand a chance) maybe compromised, unless of course you put them in one of those over priced British schools.
12. If you get fed up of Lagos, you can always fly to Abuja and set up home there...lol
13. If you have a dual nationality passport (British/Nigerian), you can always escape if there's a coup...lol
