Description:
Benue State is situated in the north central part of Nigeria and consists of many ethnic groups namely Tiv, Idoma, Igede, Etulo, Abakpa, Jukun, Hausa, Akweya and Nyifon. The Tiv are the dominant ethnic group.In Benue State, farming is the most common occupation and fishing for people in the areas near the river. Agricultural produce includes yams, rice, beans, cassava, potatoes, maize, soya beans, sorghum, millet and cocoyam. It is claimed that Benue State accounts for over 70% of Nigeria's soya bean production.
The state also has limestone as the main mineral resource.
