Akwa Ibom State is located in the South Eastern region of Nigeria. Akwa Ibom State is in Nigeria's Niger Delta region also known as the South South Zone which is rich in crude oil and natural gas.
There are several languages spoken in Akwa Ibom State in addition to English, namely Annang, Eket, Ibeno, Ibibio, Oron which are the major languages.

Akwa Ibom State has two sea ports on the Atlantic Ocean. There are also construction plans underway for the world class seaport of Ibaka.
The state's main industry is agriculture despite the fact that it is rich in minerals. The mineral resources include crude oil, natural gas, gold, salt, silver nitrate, glass sand,clay, silicon, kaolin and limestone.
In addition to crops like cassava, rice, maize, yam, cocoa yam, water yam, melon; and vegetables, the main industrial crop of Akwa Ibom State is the oil palm tree. The palm oil is refined into candles, detergents, glycerine, margarine, soap, vegetable oil.
Akwa Ibom State has many scenic landscapes and long sandy coasts, as well as a wealth of wildlife and culture.
