Description:
Increasing Non-state actors’ Implementation and Development Expertise (INSIDE) programme of the European Union (EU) yesterday held sessions simultaneously across the six geopolitical zones of Nigeria.
The aim of the information session was to provide potential grant applicants with information on the two calls for proposals that have been launched under the programme. The main stakeholders of INSIDE are Non-State Actors (NSAs) who will apply and be selected as grant beneficiaries of this programme on the basis of laid down criteria.
The two calls for proposal cover both small and large grants. For the small grants approximately €50,000- €100,000 is foreseen as funding for each action. The large grants will provide funding in amounts ranging from €200,000- €500,000 to large organisations with capacity to implement project in at least three geo-political zones. The available amount for these two calls is €6,000,000 broken down as follows; €3,600,000 for the Small Grants and €2,400,000 for the Large Grants.
These calls for proposals are launched as part of activities to implement the EU/FGN €20M Financing Agreement to assist NSAs that are fostering pro-poor policy, enhanced service delivery and transparent governance, at State and Local Government level, to increase their effectiveness and impact. The objective of the programme is to help build structures that can tackle poverty effectively, assisting Nigerians to attain the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) and to strengthen democratisation.
Under these calls, actions with the view to implementing projects that will help attain poverty reduction and service delivery enhancement projects – self-help initiatives, local government budgetary planning and prioritization, budget implementation monitoring, wealth creation groups' initiatives, environmental management programmes, safe water use and conservation programmes and all aspects of democratization will be selected.. Gender mainstreaming is considered as a cross-cutting issue and will be reflected in all actions contributing to the realization of objectives under this call.
The call for proposal is a necessary complement of the training and institutional strengthening activities of the programme. All activities under the programme are interdependent and mutually reinforcing.
