European Commission condoles Nigeria on death of President Yar'Adua

The Delegation of the European Union to Nigeria has conveyed a condolence message from the President of the European Commission to the Government and People of Nigeria on the death of President Umaru Yar'Adua.

In his letter to President Goodluck Jonathan, the President of the European Commission, Mr. Jose Manuel Barroso, said:

"I have learned with sadness that His Excellency Umaru Musa Yar'Adua, former President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, has passed away. On behalf of the European Commission, I wish to express my sincerest condolences to his family and to the Government and people of Nigeria.

"Former President Umaru Musa Yar'Adua made a great contribution to the political and democratic life of the nation, and the stability of the region. He leaves an enduring legacy which stands as an inspiration to his fellow citizens and the wider world."
