EU Courtesy visit to Kano State

Description:

The Deputy Head of the European Union Delegation to Nigeria, Mr. Kazimierz Romanski, will pay a one-day visit to Kano State on 29 July, 2010. During the visit, Mr. Romanski will pay a courtesy visit to the Governor of Kano State, Alhaji Ibrahim Shekarau, and the Emir of Kano, Alhaji Ado Bayero.

The visit by the EU official is at the invitation of the Honourable Minister/Deputy Chairman of the National Planning Commission, Dr. Shamsuddeen Usman, to the commissioning ceremony of two community projects in Kano State. Mr. Romanski will be accompanied on the visit to Kano State by the EU Delegation's Project Officer for Health, Dr. Ayeke Anthony.

The visit is an affirmation of the close working relationship between the EU Delegation and the National Planning Commission, as well as various state governments in the country.

Some EU-funded projects in Kano State include the Support to Routine Immunisation in Kano (SRIK), the Water Supply and Sanitation Sector Reform Programme (WSSSRP) and the Support to Reforming Institutions Programme (SRIP). Others are Grants to Civil society organisations as well as local or International NGOs with local partners to implement community based projects.
