The comprehensive rehabilitation of the Ilorin Juma'at Mosque, located at the heart of the state capital, is to gulp one billion naira with its formal launch slated for Friday, June 19 at the Emir of Ilorin's palace.
Speaking at a press briefing in Ilorin, the chairman of Central Working Committee, Alhaji Shehu AbdulGafar, explained that the project is expected to be completed within 15 months which, according to him when completed, it would accommodate 10,000 worshippers at a time.
He said it would have 99 domes of different sizes of about 75 feet above the floor with gold furnishing while the four big domes around it would be coated in green and reflective illumination.
He disclosed further that the new mosque would have three modern ablution centres with toilet facilities, each of which would accommodate 100 worshippers at a time, a well-equipped multipurpose hall, an Islamic Library and modern lighting equipment.
The chairman revealed that the present llorin West Local Government Secretariat would be demolished and used as car park while all shops owners around the central mosque have been relocated to lta- Amo area. He added that, while construction work is going on, worshippers would temporarily move to the old Central Mosque at Idi-Ape, which according to him could accommodate 4,000 worshippers.
