Description:
Vice President of the Federation of International Football Association, (FIFA), Mr Jack Warner has okayed Enugu as one of the selected centers for the forthcoming under 17 World Cup. Giving the approval, the FIFA boss disclosed that he was impressed with the facilities put in place at the sub-seat.
Jack Warner made this known at the Nnamdi Azikiwe Stadium, Enugu, shortly after the final inspection of facilities at the Enugu sub-seat. He said FIFA is satisfied with what the Enugu sub-seat has put in place. He however, expressed displeasure over some uncompleted work at the football pitch.
He stressed the need for the Nnamdi Azikiwe Stadium pitch to be resurfaced, adding that FIFA is ready to give Enugu sub-seat another nine days to enable them complete work on the pitch with nine days grace even though it does not stop the centre from being considered as one of the host centers. "We are leaving here not totally satisfied but reasonably satisfied. We are impressed with what we saw. The only thing is that the pitch should be resurfaced. We will give you nine days to complete all works in the stadium. The nine days we are giving you will not stop Enugu Sub Seat from being considered as one of the hosting centers.
FIFA recognizes the huge investments made by Nigeria for this competition despite the economic meltdown. We are prepared to partner with Nigeria to develop the country. In fact, out of 12 points, FIFA has given Enugu 9 points. It is a good point. It means that Enugu sub-seat has tried."
The FIFA Vice President showered encomiums on the State Governor, Sullivan Chime for the massive infrastructural development in the state and high level of sanitation.
"We are pleased with the magnitude of works here in Enugu . The roads are wonderful. Enugu has carried out all our instructions. The only thing is just the resurfacing of the pitch. The score board and flood lights are world class" he stated.
