Former Central Bank of Nigeria Governor’s Father Kidnapped

The former Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, Professor Chukwuma Soludo, yesterday had news that his 78-year-old father, Pa Simeon Soludo, was kidnapped in his home town, Isu-Ofia, in Ekwuluobia, Aguata Local Government Area of Anambra state.


The State Police Public Relations Officer, Mr. Chukwuemeka Emeka, and the Divisional Police Office of the area, Mr. Bang confirmed the incident to Vanguard. Emeka said Policemen have been dispatched to the area to investigate the circumstances leading to the kidnapping.


Professor Soludo is currently a Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship candidate for the February 6, 2010 governorship election in Anambra State, however, his political aspirations appear to be meeting with opposition.


According to the THIS DAY Newspaper, over four thousand members and stakeholders of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the 21 local government areas of Anambra state yesterday stormed the state capital, Awka to reaffirm their opposition against the choice of former Central Bank Governor, Prof Chukwuma Soludo, as the party's candidate in the February 6, 2010 governorship election in the state.


The event which held at Emmaus House Complex, Awka witnessed a mammoth crowd of anti-Soludo supporters who trooped to the venue before noon despite the heavy rainfall and displayed PDP party symbols as well as chanted solidarity songs for Chief Chris Uba, whom they eulogized for sustaining the agitation against the emergence of Soludo as a candidate.


The protesters, represented by some of the party stalwarts and governorship candidates, expressed consternation over the process that threw up Soludo as a candidate of the party, just as they urged the PDP national leadership to urgently revisit the matter and ensure that due process and rule of law prevailed.
