The first private, non governmental cultural carnival in Akwa, capital of Anambra State, was organised and sponsored Chief Dr Mrs Flora Ifeanyichukwu N. Ilonzo, Anyafulugo of Enugu-ukwu na umu nri.
The Carnival party took place in her premises at CPHA Avenue, behind The Government House in Awka. Attendants and participants dressed in colourful costumes specially designed and made by Chief Dr Mrs F.I.Ilonzo, danced and paraded the streets of Awka.
The whole groups of dancers paid courtesy visit to the Anambra State television premises where the Carnival Queen Miss Julia Nwanneka Campo, handed out gifts to the Directoress Mrs Chinwe Nnebedum and staff of the state television. Mrs Nwanne Campo is the eldest daughter of Chief Dr Mrs Ilonzo.
The partiers all later paraded down to the Palace of his Majesty, Igwe Gibson Nwosu,the Eze uzu 2.The King of Awka.
The King received Princess Mrs Nwanne Campo, Chief Ernest Okoro, Prince Okey Eze Chude, the queens of the Carnival and the rest of his subjects.
In his welcome note, His Majesty praised the efforts of this powerful lady in promoting single handedly the culture and bringing to the doorsteps of everyone such activities as seen in other countries like the colourful carnival costumes.
The King and important dignitaries later came to Chief Dr Mrs Ilonzo's house where cultural groups danced, paraded and entertained everyone.
Major Universities and schools, including the Demonstration Primary School Awka,University of Nigeria Nsukka, Nnamdi Azikiwe University,Awka. Igbinedion University Okada and others sent representatives.
The turnout was so much that the streets leading to Chief Dr Mrs Ilonzo's premises were used to set seats for attendants.
